It is difficult to see virtual students regardless of teaching format (teaching virtually or teaching in the classroom). In addition to the teaching limitations this causes, virtual students may feel disengaged from the class.

Recommendations

  • Follow WashU guidance on physical distancing for any and all physical student interaction
  • Require virtual students to use their real name in their Zoom profile that requires that they authenticate and login via the WashU Zoom login page
  • For Hyflex teaching, complete in-classroom training so that you know how to drag the participants window in Zoom to the large monitor so that you can see virtual students in the room
  • For virtual teaching, consider using a secondary monitor for student profile viewing
    • Settings in Zoom enable you to see up to 49 students
    • The larger the monitor, the more students you are able to see in a single view
